But there are very few landscapes indeed which are encircled by the cultivated land and the countryside and which, at the same time, mock my attempt to make them part of mankind's territory. Neither are there any mountains, which would give some sort of purpose to the sterile plain or even determine the boundaries. What there is here is - light."
